How to Change Your Watch Strap in 60 Seconds
Share
Changing your watch strap looks fiddly, but with the right tool it takes under a minute — and no trip to the jeweller. Here's how.
What you'll need
Just one thing: a spring bar tool. Its forked end grips the tiny spring bars that hold your strap in place. Some of our elastic loops even include a quick-release spring bar, so you won't need a tool at all.
Step by step
- Lay your watch face-down on a soft cloth to avoid scratches.
- Slide the forked end of the tool between the strap and the lug, and catch the shoulder of the spring bar.
- Push the spring bar in to compress it, then lift the strap away from the case.
- Repeat on the other side to remove the strap fully.
- Fit your new strap by seating one end of the spring bar into the lug hole, compressing the other end, and letting it click into place. Give it a gentle tug to check it's secure.
Tips
- Work slowly — spring bars can ping loose if rushed.
- Make sure your new strap is the right width first. Find Your Fit shows the correct size for your watch.
