Which Strap Fits Your Omega Speedmaster?

The Speedmaster is the watch that went to the Moon — and more than fifty years later it is still one of the most wearable icons you can own. Part of that longevity is how well it takes to a strap change. Swap the bracelet for rubber and it becomes a summer companion; add leather and it dresses for dinner. Here is exactly what fits.

First, find your lug width

The Speedmaster family isn't one size, so this is the number that matters. The classic Moonwatch (42mm Professional) uses a 20mm lug width — the size most people mean when they say Speedmaster. The smaller 38mm Speedmaster takes an 18mm strap, and the larger 44.25mm racing and Dark Side of the Moon models run to 21mm or 22mm. When in doubt, measure the gap between the lugs, or let our Find Your Fit page confirm it for you in seconds.

Why the fit is easier than a Rolex

Unlike a Submariner or GMT-Master II, the Speedmaster's lugs are flat and straight rather than curved, so it happily accepts a standard straight-end strap without any gap at the case. That opens up more styles — but our curved and fitted ends still give you the cleanest, most integrated look if you want the strap to feel factory-fitted.

Choosing your material

Rubber transforms the Moonwatch into an everyday, go-anywhere piece. It handles water, heat and sweat without a second thought, and the sporty profile suits the Speedmaster's tool-watch DNA. Browse our tang buckle rubber straps, or step up to a deployant buckle rubber strap for a secure, premium folding clasp.

Elastic loop straps are a favourite on the Speedmaster — lightweight, endlessly comfortable and a nod to the single-pass NATO the astronauts actually wore. Explore our elastic loop straps for slip-on comfort in colours that play off the black dial.

Saffiano leather takes the Speedmaster from workshop to boardroom. The fine cross-hatch texture resists scratches and moisture far better than ordinary calf, so it holds its finish through real wear. See our Saffiano leather straps.

Fitting it yourself

Changing a Speedmaster strap takes about a minute with the right tool. Our step-by-step walkthrough, How to Change Your Watch Strap in 60 Seconds, shows you how to do it without scratching the lugs or case.

The short version

Confirm your lug width first — 20mm for the Moonwatch, 18mm for the 38mm, 21–22mm for the larger cases. Then choose rubber for daily and water wear, elastic loop for lightweight comfort, or Saffiano leather for dress occasions. Still unsure?
